Jain delegates in Jaipur met BJP leaders to discuss recent issues

Jain delegates in Jaipur met BJP leaders today to discuss recent issues such as attacks on Jain saints, breaking Jain idol in Narlai, Pali district, Rajasthan etc.

A delegation comprised of leaders and eminent persons from all sects of Jain met Sri Arun Chaturvedi, President BJP, Rajasthan at BJP state head quarter at 11 AM. BJP state president had warm welcome to all delegates and asked to describe issues related. A brief introduction session was preceded before that.

At first, Jyoti Kothari, secretary, Sri Jain Shwetambar Khartar Gachchh Sangh briefed Sri Arun Chaturvedi with the matters concern. He told that there are several issues which he wants to put before the leader. He attracted Mr. Chaturvedi's attention to recent attacks on Jain monks at Bharuch and Girnar. Jain monks Muni Sri Dhyanshekhar Vijayji and Ajeetshekhar Vijayji were the victims of fatal accident at Bharuch. It is suspected that the truck accident was an willful act and should be treated as murder. Muni Sri Prabalsagarji became victim of stabbing which put him into the hospital. Both of the incidents are from Gujrat.

However, Jyoti kothari praised Sri Narendra Modi, Chief minister, Gujrat for his timely action against attackers. He informed that the attackers are arrested. He added that Mr. Narendra Modi has announced police protection for Jain monks and nuns while in transit (Vihar).

Jyoti Kothari also told that several willful accidents occurred in western Rajasthan during past few years that put several Jain saints into death. He told that Muni Jambu Vijayji, a great scholar, Sadhvi Hemprabha Sri ji and Vineet Prajnya sri ji etc are few to name. He raised issue of breaking idol at Narlai, Pali, Rajasthan where some anti social elements cut the idol of Lord Neminath from the throat. It was a very old statue in a historic temple. He demanded quick and tough action against all these issues. He requested Mr. Arun Chaturvedi to play role of main opposition in Rajasthan as well as in the center.

Several other members also spoke about the issues. Members handed over a signed petition to the BJP President. Mr. Chaturvedi assured him that he will raise the questions at appropriate forum and talk to central and provincial leadership.

The delegation then moved to the residence of Sri Omprakash Mathur, BJP leader who is looking after Gujrat issues. Jyoti Kothari handed over the same signed petition to him and briefed the issues. Mr. Omprakash Mathur also assured the delegation of appropriate and immediate action.

Sri Sunil Kothari, Sri Nirmal Nahta and Sri Ajay Dhandhia played pivotal role in organizing both the meetings. Jain community is thankful to them.

Wonderful initiative to cultivate Jainism among young Jain

Sri Dharmendra Tank, Jaipur has taken a wonderful initiative to cultivate Jainism among young Jain last week. I appreciate and praise his effort.

It was usual Christmas break and his relatives reached Jaipur with festive mood. However, Dharmendra had something different in his mind. I got a phone call asking whether I was free or not. I asked him purpose and he told me that he wanted a spiritual session with his family members. It was scheduled for the next afternoon (December 30, 2012).

We gathered at his drawing room accompanied with his sisters, in laws, nephews and nieces (A group of 25). Most of them were young and middle aged. One of his niece asked a question about Jainism to start the discussion. I replied the same in details and the session was followed with several other questions. All of them were curious, attentive and serious. Serious intellectual discussion continued for 3 hours and all were satisfied.

It was a learning session for me too. Many of the young present there had their education abroad, they are qualified professionals. They do not believe in mere rituals. They don't want to follow Jainism blindly. They wanted logic behind everything. They were satisfied when I spoke logically.

I am explaining an important thing came into my notice that session. Most of the mothers tried to impose Jainism in form of several rituals, dos and don'ts. And these were unacceptable to young sons and daughters. They had, naturally, resentment and some kind of rebellion attitude against this. I came to the conclusion that this is the main reason for the young and youths for not following religion. When I spoke logically they accepted most of the things.

My conclusion is that the young are as spiritual as us. It is better not to blame them but to blame ourselves. We are failed to convey Jainism in modern context.

Thanks to Dharmendra for organizing such session which may be eye opening for many of us. I would request those who attended the discussion to write their experience and opinion in the comment box.

Attacks against Jain saints in Gujrat

There are attacks against Jain saints since few days. It is happening in Gujrat state which is traditionally a safe heaven for Jain monks and nuns. It seems that this is a planned conspiracy. There are several attacks against Jain monks even a monk is stabbed. There were several road accidents which caused fatal for the Jain monks. All these are happening at the same period which creates doubt in the minds of common Jain.

One of my friends informed me that while protesting peacefully in Bharuch police cracked down over the Jain protesters. More than 50 injured in lathi charge. Eminent social server likes of Kumarpal V Shah was arrested and held by Gujrat police.

Everybody knows that Jain community is a non violent community believing in peaceful co exixtence with all other communities in India and overseas. They never indulge in violence, nor do they break peace of a state or country. Normally they do not even protest on petty issues.
Even after a track record of non violence and peaceful co existence why the community is victim of such violence?

Why all these?
Mr. Nischal Seth, Tokyo wrote this in face book:
"In a very unfortunate event, today (01.01.2013) at about 7;30 am on NH No. 8 near Bharuch (Near Hotel Atithi between Bharuch and Asuriya Vihardham) , two Sadhu Bhagvant viz. Shri Dhyanshekar Vijayji & Shri Hastgiri Vijayji were crushed to death by a tyrant truck driver. Both sadhu bhagwants were walking on extreme left of the road side on the soil and were hit from the back giving no chance even by horn or no brake was applied. Both sahdu bhagwants have been moved to Civil Hospital at Bharuch for postmortem and their Palkhi (Antimyatra) will begin at about 12:30 hr from Civil Hospital, Bharuch.. To create awareness among all, Agnisanskar will be given at the place of accident on NH No. 8 (200 metre from Hotel Atithi from Bharuch to Vadodara - appx SIX KILOMETERS from Zadewahwar chowkdi towards Baroda)."
